Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree...and Christmas Tree...and...

It's been such a nice Thanksgiving weekend! God was dipping out blessings and shakin' them all over our family! We ate too much, and we had fun together! We had a small crew putting up the Christmas tree this year, but we still got it done. Here's the family tree with lots of different ornaments -

We did a lodge look in one bedroom - I wish you could see the deer horns better because they look pretty cool!

We put a small tree in the front window. It still needs some work!

And my little prim tree in the craftroom... a few more toys and it should be done.

Then there's the giant tree standing in our bedroom with no decorations. I just needed one more day off!

I also took a little stroll down Memory Lane today, as I dragged out the Santas that aren't already out all year(hehehe). I got this old fella out. He's the very first Santa I ever sculpted! He makes me laugh with his bushy hair, his flat little fingers, and his slightly burned nose that makes him look as if he's been taking a little nip, but he also makes me smile.

If it weren't for this jolly, old soul, I wouldn't be creating Santas today. It's nice to stroll down Memory Lane now and then. It makes me appreciate all God's allowed me to do in my life.

Wow, it's already November, and I haven't been a good blogger. Sorry, folks. School has been a whirlwind, but it's a good year! I'm hanging on for the ride! I've reworked my evening schedule since time changed this weekend (it's dark out there, so I can now come inside without feeling guilty!), and the sleigh bells are filling the craft room! This fun little guy popped out of nowhere last night...

Sorry for the poor lighting, but it's still dark outside this morning! I just had to get a post in before I scooted off to work! I'm not sure where he's headed, but he seems to be happy about the journey! Come to think of it, that's the way we all ought to take the day. God let us get up this morning-it's a good day. Walk with Him today and delight in the journey.

One Hand at a Time! (Primitive Santa Work-in-Progress)

Oh, it's that time of year...I have a few pumpkins scattered through the house ( I found a beauty at Lowes yesterday!)

Yes, it's a little early for Jack-o-Lanterns, but a few of them have popped up here and there

And a few fall leaves have fallen in the craft room...

And I have visions of Santa dancing in my head!

That's right, Santa is back in the limelight! I've taken a month or so off from the jolly old guy, but I'm back in elf mode, and I got to spend a little time sculpting last night. I've been dabbling more in paperclay lately (although I'll never give up my love of polymer), and I'm working on a new primitive Santa candy container. So, here's a peek at the work in progress -

As always, I'm battling with the primitive look. Switching from the realistic polymer sculpts to a more primitive paperclay look is a battle! One side of my brain is screaming "LET it be primitive!!" The other side is reasoning, "That's not an accurate scale, and the palm...." well, you get the picture! Stay tuned to see who wins...

Spooky Things Are Popping Up All Around the Craftroom!

Back to work I've gone, back to work I've gone, HiHo, HiHo, it's back to work I've gone...and boy, has it been a fast and crazy ride! I did manage to snap a few photos of some spooky, little guys that have popped up on the craft table.

They have since disappeared...last I saw them, they were hiding in the mailbox! Hmmm...wonder where they went...

Clyde the Closet Monster is Quite a Handful! - Work in Progress

First let me say, Thank you Lord for the wonderful rain. We've been in a severe drought with fires everywhere. God blessed us the last two days with lots of rain!
So, this post is two-fold. To those of you that like to see a work-in-progess, Clyde is quite the work-in-progress, to say the least. He's been a handful at every turn, and it doesn't look like it's going to get better. For my artist friends out there, do you ever have one of those sculpts that seems to taunt you, defy you, make you want to roll him through the pasta machine???
With just 6 days to the Grand Opening of my Etsy Shop (sherryscabin), I've been trying to get a few things ready that are outside my norm. I sketched out Clyde - just a simple closet monster (most of you have those, right?). See Clyde was supposed to be just a little baby...and he started out fairly normal for a Closet Monster.

He tried on some faces, and that's where the trouble began...

Nothing seemed to satisfy him or me. We wrestled around awhile and moved on to other monster parts...

We argued over his claws - he WANTED claws...he GOT claws..

I did draw the line at how long he was allowed to have them!
We then started bickering over his face...he wanted to be able to eat his toys and demanded a giant mouth.

And then came the paint and hair. Ughh! It was horrible...nothing worked as planned, paint was everywhere, he ate two brushes, and the hair, oh, the hair...

Sometimes I just don't win.

Now it seems we're arguing over what he gets to hold in his hands...or, should I say, eat?

Ghoulishly Close to the Start of School!

School is just around the corner, and I'll be back to work. I'm making a last minute mad dash around the craftroom. Just a little change of pace around here - yes there are Santas that need to be finished; but while the grandkids were here, there happened to be a package of paperclay that got opened but not used. I had given my grandson a gourd and some paperclay, but he ended up not using it. It was just laying around my desk here bugging me...haunting me, I guess you could say. I really started out making a Santa face, but he just didn't want to be Santa! Something more ghostly appeared. Here's the WIP sneak-peek ->

He's got a long way to go. Keep your fingers crossed - maybe I'll finish him by Halloween!

It's Official...The Head is Out of the Box!

Just an update on the life-size Father Christmas I've been working on -

He's gotten a little closer (might I stress little!) to seeing himself come to life-literally seeing himself because I finally pulled his head I'd sculpted out of its box! He has no hair,yet, but hey, every step counts around here!

I really like the way his coat is turning out, but Santa and I are trying to decide on what kind of fur trim he'd like to have...we having some problems with this...

This particular light colored fur is beautiful, but it's a little too yellow and will probably be too light after Santa gets his beard and hair...

Then there's the black fur- not as plush as the light colored, but I have more of it (although not enough - eBay to the rescue, please)

It does tie in with the boots. Santa, what do you think??? Hmmmph, he's staying quiet on the whole deal... While we're considering the trim, here's where I am at the moment - up to my eyeballs in goat hair - fresh from the goat! Well, not fresh, fresh - I've washed it!

I wash large batches of raw mohair and store it until I need it...

Then comes the fun and excitement, WoooHoooo, of separating locks into sizes and colors - all the while picking out tiny bits of grass and debris that didn't wash out with the dirt and oils. Oh the joy of it all!! Anyway, you can see where I will be for several hours. Santa's feeling a little neked (hehe), so I'd better get to work!

God started spooning out blessings at the crack of dawn this morning. I hope your day is dripping with them already! And, hey, Let Him be the Lord of your life today!

What's a Zazzle? Anything like a BeaDazzle? Ok, so I was curious to find out just what a Zazzle was. I've seen it on several friends' blogs on The Hive, so I thought I would investigate for those of us who aren't savy on the newest internet lingo. Come to find out, it's a giagantic store of sorts. I now understand why artists from The Hive have been buzzing about it! It's a design center where you can create cards, shirts, and all kinds of personalized gifts that feature YOUR art - now that's pretty cool!

So, what is the cost to set it up? Nothing! You simply create your store, design your items, and TADA - you have customized items for sale. What is the catch, you ask? Well, you only make a tiny royalty percentage, but, hey, if they do all the work and all I have to do is provide the art, a few pennies here and there would be nice! Besides that, you can Christmas shop in your own store! Won't your family love that?? Now, not only do they have to get homemade stuff from you, they now also chance getting a t-shirt with the picture of the homemade stuff!

Yes, I set up a store. Take a peek at the "Me, Ima Jean" selection. For those who may not know our little Ima Jean (aka the Devil Child), she's a rescue mule who's on her way to being a ministry for God. God has always provided for us to take care of our animals and has allowed us to use them for His glory, so her products are not intended to make her rich. If she sells several hundred cards, she might be able to buy a sack of oats or two. Her products have been created to stretch her ministry beyond the confines of West Texas and to bring a smile to someone's face.

I'll be adding a few of my folkart paintings of Santa. I'm sure they won't make me rich and famous, either, but, who knows, it might just buy another paintbrush or box of clay to support my art habit!

Morning Visitor

Doesn't God make the most beautiful creatures? My morning visitor passed through to get a bite to eat and stopped long enough to let me admire her beauty. We are in such drought that she's really drawn down and hungry. We've got some corn out, but she's in search of greenery. Had I been able to reach through the glass, I could have petted her on the head. She was about two feet outside my craftroom window, and I was pressed against the glass to wish her good morning.

Folks, I know it's a busy world, but slow down a little today and soak in the amazing creations that God has surrounding us at every turn. There may be a lot of darkness in the world, but there is also True Light if you seek it. Hope your day has a heapin' Tablespoon of blessings mixed in!

Father Christmas Took a Baby-Step Today

I think he was a little concerned that I was wrapping him in butcher paper..hehehe!

I'm lovin' this fabric, but now I'm thinking he needs lighter colored boots to go with the coat...an elf's work is never done...

Old Project - Coming Out to Play

Those of you that have ever stepped foot in my comfy craftroom know that there are unfinished projects at every turn. There is one particular project that has been lurking in the corner for a very, very long time. He's a life-size Santa, or should I say, a headless body in longjohns that creeps people out when they visit! He was coming along great when I sculpted his head and hands, and created his body. Then I began the search for the perfect boots. Size 11 - antique, or at least vintage, black stove-pipe, worn...AND not too expensive. My thriftiness often causes things to take longer than they would if I'd turn loose of a little cash! I finally found them! Then came the search for the perfect fabric for an unusual Father Christmas- not the typical red or green - something heavy, richly colored, and carrying an old world feel...AND not too expensive. That search has gone on and on...until finally, last week, I found it!! I think, anyway. Santa is sporting it draped over his shoulders while I contemplate.

The lighting doesn't do the fabric justice in its rich color, but you can get an idea. I like the color against his skin tone...

My plate is full of things that need to be done, but there is something inside of me that's crying out for some creative time. I'm thinking that this old project might just come a step closer to completion this week. I'll keep you posted if Santa's head gets to come out of his box!

Good-Bye Old Friend

As most of you already know from Facebook, I had to say good-bye to my old buddy, McLintock, this week.

We had a freaky accident waiting for the Coleman parade to start, and when all was said and done, neither the vet, nor the surgeon he called, could do anything to save him. It was a difficult weekend, and I will miss him dearly, but I cannot say enough thanks to the outpouring of kindness and thoughtfulness from everyone.
God always has a plan, and I will wait on Him to find out what it is. He allowed Mac and I ten years together working for Him, so I have no doubts that He's got a plan.
Good-bye, my friend, and thank you for your love and dedication.

You will be missed!

Anister is Born!

Baby Anister has arrived! He's been a labor of love for several weeks now, and he's finally spread his wings. I was able to capture a few photos while he slept. It's not often that I venture out of my Santa sculpting comfort zone, but once in awhile a fairy begins to buzz around in my noggin, and I've just got to get it out! Anister is a rare Dragonfly (Anisoptera) Fairy. I took these just before his wings unfolded-

Truly a Good Friday

Some of you that don't know my Savior personally, might not understand how the death of someone so dear to me could possibly be considered a "Good Friday."
For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit. 1 Peter3:18
It is through His death and Resurrection, that I am made righteous before God. He bought me with his blood. There is nothing I can do to repay the cost, but I am so thankful for the gift. It truly is a Good Friday!

I've had some quiet time today to work on my little fairy again...the work-in-progress is always a little scary to me -

I'm never sure if I'm going to end up with Skeletor's child...

She may end up as a paperweight! She's got some flesh now and is cooling down in the oven. Hmmm, now that sounds a little gruesome, doesn't it?? Anyway, I'm off to sculpt another wee little hand. I had one sculpted that I'd worked, oh, 30 minutes or so, on, put it to the side, and...

laid my arm on it...ugghh...

Well, the bookshelf has been retrimmed, painted, and moved into the craftroom. I'm not sure if I like it where it sits. I'll have to look at it a few days. I was really aggrevated with the paint coverage over the old green color, but as it turned out, it gave it the aged look I was going to do with a stain over the top!

The peace and quiet-I'm soakin' it up! So, what's on today's agenda? I finally decided to start to work on a salvage find that's been sitting on our porch since before Christmas. Gayland's been so patient not to chop it up for firewood. Here it is in all of its ugliness -

It's almost 8 ft. tall, and, boy, was it a chore getting it into the house without tearing up the cedar on the porch! Kitchen skewers to the rescue! I used a handful of wooden skewers to make a roller system, and, TADA, ugly bookshelf makes it into house! Stay tuned to see how it turns out...

It's Worth It

Sometimes I wonder why we run here and there like chickens with our heads cut off (don't blame me, that's what my grandma always said...come to think of it, I've never seen it happen...anyway), but it doesn't take long for me to see the answer that makes it all worthwhile. Our local WTLA Longhorn chapter hosted a longhorn show at the San Angelo Stock Show for our third year now. We were up over 130 entries this year!! Folks, these are what makes it all worth it -

It gives me hope for our future...

They make me smile...

They are each champions in my books....

Yes, whatever the chaos to make it happen, it's all worth it.

We Survived!

I had fun with him sitting in my classroom this year! It was just nice to get back into being a little creative.

Gus and I also survived the Spooktacular PlayDay at the Cowboy Church. I think I had more fun than he did. He was quite caught up with his hyper-sensitive zombie sensing skills.... Here is a photo captured of the zombie that overtook Cocoa.

On last report, I was trying to decide on a Halloween or a Christmas sculpt with my little gourd. Halloween it was! Well, more like Dia de los Muertos, Day of the Dead! I'm not so sure how my little fella's turning out. I had ordered some Apoxy Sculpt several months ago to try. I am a die-hard polymer clay sculptor that likes to dabble in Paperclay for a more primitive look. I had heard good things about this clay, so I had to give it a try. So, what do I think? Uggghh!

It started off ok...

And then things turned South...

Yes, folks, it got Ugly...

Those of you who use Apoxy Sculpt. HELP!! I could not get the clay to blend like I wanted, and I kept smooshing (technical term) the parts I had already sculpted trying to blend on new pieces. I've seen beautiful work done with this stuff, so I know it's possible, but maybe just not by ME!

I broke out my smoothing agent that I use on polymer and had a little more success. I'm not sure how it reacts with the clay, though, so he may fall to pieces!

I ripped his little head off numerous times and finally came to settle on a relatively simple look...

Which just happens to fit with the whole Dia de los Muertos thing. That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it!

So, what are my thoughts on Apoxy Sculpt?

* It's expensive, and I can't buy it locally. Therefore, I had to pay shipping on it, as well.

* After mixing the parts, you've got to use it all in a few hours. I didn't use a small chunk, so that's $$ in File 13.

* I could not work the clay like I wanted. Most likely because I didn't know what the heck I was doing!

* The finished sculpt is very heavy compared to PaperClay.

* On the up side, I'm curious to see how durable it is when cured.

Check back to see how the finishing goes. Any thoughts from my fellow artists who wield this stuff into fantastic art????

Regardless of the outcome, I got to spend a quiet afternoon playing with clay, so all is good!

I'm coming out of hibernation! Things had just gotten too hectic, and the thoughts and creations of Sherry's Cabin were all but extinguished. I've stepped back, reorganized and prioritized, and decided God gave me talents that shouldn't be wasted. Sue Kroll Paints a Mule a Day-And Other Fabulous Art!

Good Morning all. God has given us another perfect day! If you're alive, and you know Him, it IS perfect!
Those of you who have followed this site for a long time, know that I originally started this as a place to share my artwork with added tidbits of God's Word, the antics of my animals, and my thoughts on the world.
Well, life has been busy for us with lots going on at the Cowboy Church, with our animals He's blessed us with, and our home, so the artwork has been at a standstill.

That being said, I thought I would let you in on a jewel of an artist that I've recently discovered...ok, I can't take the credit here. It seems Gus, my mule, has more friends on Facebook than me, and this gal is in his friend list.

Busy day today, but I wanted to share some of God's beauty this morning. I headed out to the laundry shed this morning, and God greeted me with a beautiful messenger. I stopped and went to grab my camera, so I could share with you. Those of you that know me well, know I'm a bug lover, anyway, but this one just seemed to say, "Good Morning! Enjoy your day. It's a gift from the Big Guy."

My New Table!!

West Texas Rehab Summer Camp

It's that time of year again when the boys are hard at work. They made an appearance at Frontier Day at Fort Concho this weekend,

and they had their big day at West Texas Rehab Day Camp today. Along the way, we met some wonderful ladies that also volunteer their time, and Rooster gave the gals a ride! Take a look!

It's time for the 2010 San Angelo Cowboy Church PlayDay Buckles Series, and we have a new age division this year - my friend, Judy, calls us the old and decrepit class! We had fun, though.

Gus did an awesome job at his first playday! He thought the whole thing was silly, but he humored me and played along. My favorite part - he's kid friendly!

You know I can't resist the little ones... I think this was a meeting of the minds!

And, there were Daredevils!

You know, it sure is nice to get together in the name of the Lord and have an all-out good time!

Just and Update for all of Ima Jean's Adopted Aunts

Summer break is here, and my To-Do List is gigantic!! However, I had to take the time to do a flash-back to last summer. Remember poor little Ima Jean when she first came to live with us?

She was so sad looking...my heart still cries when I look at the pictures of her first day here. Well, she quickly won the hearts of several of my HARTS sisters who became her adopted aunts.
Gus snapped some pictures of us working last night for his Facebook page...he's quite the popular mule on there, you know... Augustus McBray... if you want to drop in on him... surprisely he captured Ima Jean's beauty in this shot. Aunties, look what our little girl has become -

The End of Another Year - Some Laughter...Some Tears

Today I laughed with good ol' belly laughs...and cried a few tears. Another school year has come to an end. Those of you that follow my blog know how truly blessed I am to have the greatest job on Earth. This year has been such fun, I hated to see it end. I had to turn loose of my nest of chickadees today and let them fly. It makes me so happy to see them growing up and planning new dreams, and it makes me sad to see them go.

I also had to say farewell to an awesome friend and the best teacher anyone could ask for. Like my kiddos, she's moving on to greater things, and she will be missed.

A few weeks ago, I was recognized for an amazing honor. I can't tell you how much it meant to me. This honor was given by administrators and peers that I could never thank enough.

As honored and grateful as I am for the acknowledgement, it still can't compete with the words of my students. They are good for my soul. They are the reason I teach. The crystal on the mantle will have to move over for these parting gifts.

These are most precious to me!

God's Beauty from Behind the Ears

You folks know I'm always on the look out for God's treasures, and Gus and I were blessed to find a heap of 'em yesterday! We hit the trail... Gayland and Cocoa went along for the ride, although I'm not sure the found all of the hidden treasures Gus and I spied. The world just seems more amazing when viewed from behind the ears!

"Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." John 14:27

Wow, what a gift! In all the hectic mania that goes on in our worlds, in all the sadness you see in the news, in the utter stupidity of our government, we can still stand on His promises.

Here I find peace. This ranch has been in my family for over 100 years. It's impossible to ride along in this openness and not feel God. Everybody in West Texas knows that everything around here bites, sticks, or stings.... and some do more than one! But even in West Texas, God's treasures popped up everywhere along our ride...

There's amazing beauty amongst the thorns if we take the time to notice.

Gus had a nice chat with the cows and their younguns. Snitty girls were laughing at his ears, I think...

Even the scourge of Texas, the mesquite tree, who drinks up 30 gallons of water a day, seemed to come alive on our trip... do you see the two dancing?

I thank the Lord for letting me see the world from behind the ears... it's such a peaceful view.
I need not get on my soapbox today for those that doubt our Creator... I won't even give you a science lesson on the amazing diversity and incredible survival tools with which God has equipped these treasures. I need not... because they speak for themselves.

And thanks to my buddy for the ride!

Just thought I'd pop in and give you an update on the fairy babe I'm sculpting. She's been quite difficult! She refuses to cooperate with me, and she's determined to be a dragonfly fairy...you know how kids are...

Well, she's been fired and given a dab of color here and there, but she hasn't received her wings.

We had a double mugging event at the Cowboy Church today, and we had a great time! We had temperatures in the 70s and lots of fun! I always take photos of the church events and get many actions shots like these...

The Spring Bug Bit Me! WIP

It's just days until spring, and I'm itching to see the bugs, flowers, and fairies popping up. Did I say fairies? Yes, I believe I did! This little sleeping beauty has been flying around in my head for days, and she finally got a chance to take shape today. She's not done just yet, but I thought I'd give you a peek at her work in progress-

God is Still Taking Care of Me!

Has anyone wondered what's been going on around Sherry's Cabin? Probably not, but here's a run-down anyway! The new year has been a great one! February 7th was my 4 yr. anniversary for being cancer free. February 12th I had a hysterectomy to remove an unknown mass that my doctor feared might be cancer. The results are in, and the mass was benign. Praise God! He always takes care of me. Knowing that my previous cancer fed on hormones, I'm thinking this was God's way of keeping me from having a reoccurance of the breast cancer!

Anyway, it's been a little over a week, and I've been chomping at the bit. I got the ok yesterday to go back to work today, and it SNOWED!!! Yes folks, it's a "School's Closed Snow Day" in West Texas. Here's the view from my craftroom at about 7:30 am.

And a look from the front porch... Between the pines is the road to our house... I think....

Miracles never cease! There are doll parts in my craftroom!! I've been crawling through a lonnnggg creative dryspell, but the snow seems to have awakened a sleeping dolly in my brain. Let's hope she stays awake!!

I'm standing on the promises, and this is going to be a great year! We've had a wonderful Christmas season, but I haven't had much time to pop in and blog. We have enjoyed fun with family and friends, and Gayland's started back to work on the house!

God is good - all the time!
Here at the Hall House, we want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. We know we are truly blessed everyday, but we're taking a little extra time to count our blessings and thank God for His Grace and Mercy. We hope you will find time to do the same.

Folks have been asking what has happened to the crazed Santa lady this year. Where are the works in progress??? Honestly, our time has been so extended in other places, she has been dozing peacefully in the back of my mind. However, I was able to stir her awake yesterday in a moment of free-time I snuck in, and she's come alive with a roar! So, here's a glimpse of the latest work in progress. He's an Old World Belsnickle Candy Container in the making.

His boots are sculpted from paperclay and attached to a wooden container.

Those of you that know me, know I love polymer clay, but I'm really growing to like paperclay, as well! His head is still in the works - needs some smoothing in places and wrinkling in others!

We won a 20 mth. old registered stud colt named Kerry Dun Leo. Yeah, we're working on a nickname! Right now, it's Tater. Here's our new boy-

This is not one that you should run for cover... instead, face it head on!

Wow, what a whirlwind! It has been a wild and crazy month around here! Let me start with a round of applause for the artists of the Humble Arts this month! Go take a peek at the new offerings and the new look of the site! I'm offering three of my folkart painted Santa plaques this month! Go on, I'll wait on you.....

Glad you're back! Now, just what's been going on around here? We spent Labor Day in Bandera, TX, at the Annual Cowboy Celebration. We had a wonderful time, and the boys enjoyed the parade!

What else, you say? God was on the move at our Cowboy Church! We had an unbelievable weekend at the church arena. We took the chuckwagon and camped out for the weekend cooking for folks and enjoying the time together. Award-winning country gospel group Desert Reign played for two services. If you've never heard them, they are worth checking out, and their testimonies are inspiring. We had a ranch sorting that drew many new faces into the church arena, and we had a blast! Cocoa and Gayland competed and had lots of fun! It took me a week to recooperate from that!

For better or worse, I'm the church photographer, and I just couldn't resist this guy! So handsome!

Then came the Eden Parade last weekend. The boys meandored through the streets of Eden, TX, and enjoyed the day. It's a little home-town parade that's lots of fun!

In between all the hoopla, Gayland has been working on getting the porch on the addition done before a going-away party we're having for a dear friend. Go! Go! Go! Here's the snapshot I took last night. Yeah!! I love it!! Still a lot to be done, but we sure do love sitting in the porch swing in the evenings.

For those keeping up with Ima Jean's progress, she's really done a super job this week! Don't look at me in the photo with my little dorky bag of oats on my side... but look how she's grown! I was just mentioning to friends this morning that she will only follow me when I don't have a lead attached to her...????? Seems there's a Christian message in there somewhere that I need to think on today!

Ahhhh, rain. Lord, it does the soul good. I smiled and splashed in a puddle or two as I walked from my end parking spot at the store today. Funny, or maybe sad, how so many folks don't see the beauty in it as they grumble about getting wet. Not me, Lord. Here I am. Wash away the dirt. Just in from the porch soaking up the freshness of it all, and caught a right nice snapshot of a little friend of mine.

Isn't she amazingly beautiful? This is no haphazardly formed clump of cells, my friends. She crawled right onto God's canvas and sat for a spell while He put the finishing touches on her. Have you stopped to look at His glory today?

Tonight's Prayers

No, wait... I've got the hands... I NEED the rest of the body!!!! There seem to be Santa hands in every direction, but I haven't been able to get anything else done on this poor guy. Maybe I can just sell hands for Halloween!! Well, until the calm after the storm, it doesn't look like it's going to get any better for awhile. You see, tomorrow is the first day of school, and I'm back in the classroom with my little punkins! I'm excited to start the new year, but no artwork is appearing around here...Maybe the hands can get work and dream up something!

I Know...I Know...

Where have I been... well, it's that time of year again, and I've been in my classroom for the last two weeks making things ready for the new year. I'm excited even though I'm wondering where my summer went! That was a flash in the pan! I didn't get to do much artwork this summer which made me a little sad, but we have gotten a lot done on the addition to the house. That makes me happy!!! Gayland finished the rock work in the front entrance and the front of the house this weekend. I love it! I have a beautiful ceiling in my new craftroom, too. He's my Superman!

Here's the new front entrance. The rock has continued around from the original house. He started the porch today.
Come on in... and ignore the portly woman reflected in the glass!

Here's the left wall of the entrance. Those doors will lead to the den when we get the den built. That's the Christmas phase! Here's the right wall of the front entrance. Talk about a lot of work for Gayland. As you might recall, on the rock laying, I'm just the "sweeper upper".

Well, that's where I've been. That, and in the round pen with Ima Jean trying to convince her she's not the boss. Wish me luck on that one! If you haven't dropped by the Humble Arts this month, you're missing a treat- Trick or Treat, that is!
I'm offering a hand-painted sign from the "Toil and Trouble Spell Emporium." This sign is my own design, and would be a great touch to a Halloween motif!

Grandkid Fun!!

It's that time of summer where my house is filled with grandkids, and they've got me hoppin'! We had the final round of the Cowboy Church PlayDay Buckle Series this past weekend, and the kids got to participate. Since Mamaw is the official photographer, Papaw had to do the runnin'! Poor Papaw! We all had a blast. Here are a few snapshots of the day -

And Ima Jean got to go and watch the whole day! Talk about a tantrum throwing little toot... she did NOT like the fact that all the other animals were riding, moving around, etc., and she had to stand and watch.

Survived the Weekend with a Blast of Fun!

The message rang loud and clear in Rocksprings, TX, this weekend in the celebration of this Independence Day - This is still One Nation Under God. It was seen in people's hearts and caught on film in this photo of one of the float's flags.

It's taken me a few days to get back in the swing of things around here and to get caught up from the weekend! We had a fantastic time in Rocksprings, visited with some old friends, and met some really nice, new folks. We marshaled the parade with Bill and Vernon - two of the greatest characters you could ever meet. It's worth the trip to Rocksprings just to meet these two. They've both attended or been a part of the Rocksprings Rodeo for over 80 yrs.

Rooster's shoes were a big hit at the parade! His toesies didn't hurt, and everyone loved his patriotism!

This is our most relaxing weekend of the year, and we love it. Here's our camp out at the rodeo arena. I'd sure love to bring some of those trees home.

And we got to spend two nights watching my FAVORITE sport, and the weekend went to the bulls!

Can you believe this is what I wanted to do in high school. Yeah, those of you that know me probably can... A friend of mine and I were going to a school to learn to become bull-fighters. I guess God played His hand there when we found out the price of the school - $$$$$$$. Thanks Lord, for keeping my slow rear-end from getting stomped by a bull and for still letting me play with cows! God is good!

And since we've been home, the rocks in the new entry are going up!!! Yay! Gayland has been working hard to get the rock walls done. I have a very technical, and highly skilled job in the process. I'm the official sweeper - upper. Well, somebody's got to have the important job!!

Don't You Step on His Blue Suede Shoes...

Ok, they're not suede, but have you ever seen such a sight! Poor Rooster broke his toe in the quick at the Coleman Parade weekend before last, and he's had a terrible time walking. We've been asked to be the parade marshals for the Rocksprings 4th of July Celebration this weekend, and Rooster still has a tender toe. His daddy bought him some down-right snazzy shoes to cushion his feet for the parade! I just had to laugh at us, and figured you'd have a chuckle, too. I've got to paint him some white stars on the toes before we leave town!

Now he can sneak up on his hay!

Our New Baby

God has blessed our family once more by working through all kinds of muck to make it possible for us to rescue this little beauty. Meet Ima Jean, the newest addition to the Hall Clan. Boy, what a strange brood around here!

She's had a rough 14 mths. of life, but hopefully she will carry her message forward in a ministry for kids. You see, she's "ugly and broken" in a mule breeder's eyes, but I see something truly beautiful in her. With time, you'll see it, too. Just like we're ugly and broken before we come to know the Lord, but He sees something beautiful inside each of us, and He was willing to invest all He had to show His love for us.

This little girl will steal your heart in a second. She's just loves being loved! You can see she needs lots of TLC,

but you just keep checking back to see the transformation in this little jewel. It will start on the inside and work its way out; again, like the seed of Christ in our lives. It slowly grows in darkness inside of us where others don't notice until one day His love blooms on the outside of us.

God Is Amazing

I should not be amazed at God's work because I know He can do all things, but it still gives me a tingly feeling every time I see Him in action. We are a part of West Texas Rehab's Day Camp every summer. It's a three day camp for kids who attend the Rehab Center - everything from speech problems to spina bifida. They all have one thing in common - they are having a blast at the camp! A truly amazing family - the Barnharts - have been hosting this camp many years. The second and third generations are now taking care of things. You will not find bigger hearts than these folks have.
We are delighted to play a small part in the camp. Our boys return each year to give rides to the kids - 86 this year. It's a sight to behold. God uses a 2200 lb. and a 1650 lb. beast to bring smiles and joy to these kids. Those of you that know him, know Mac is quite an Oscar the Grouch. However, on camp day, he puts on a different attitude- one of God's love- for the kids. I gives me goose bumps to watch him stand still for us to load many kids - many that cannot load themselves. Just a side note - he NEVER stands still for me! I hope we can be a part for many years to come.

It's a beautiful day on my second day of summer vacation! I spent yesterday trying to catch up on laundry, organizing, throwing stuff out, etc. We've got the walls painted at the church, and we're taking a break before we redo the fellowship area. That means I've got some "home" time, and I love it!!!!! Gayland has gone back to work on our house since we've got most of the building done a the church, too, and he's planning on knocking the wall out to the new addition some time this week. I'm so excited I can't stand myself!!!

So, what's going on? Well, have you checked out the June Humble Arts? There are some fabulous dolls and hand-stitched works this month. You really ought to take a peek. I'm offering Miss Red, my Izannah Walker inspired storybook character.

I am in the mood for making Santas!!! Watch out, Gayland.... there will soon be Santa body parts all over the house! I bet he'll be so glad to get my new craft room done just so he can see the TV without having to look around a bald head!

Before I can get started on a new Santa, though, I've got some caricatures to finish. School's out, and I've sent my little punkins on to junior high, but I've still got a few things to drop in the mail for them. If the Lord is willing, I'm going to work on a book this summer - a graphic novel, of sorts (a BIG comic book), that covers all of the science concepts that my kiddos struggle with on the state testing (bluwckkkkk...). I needed some guest appearances in the comic, and some of my little punkins(I know, the hate it when I call them that...hehe) will be the guinea pigs... I mean guest appearances. I'm sending the originals to the kids along with a CD of all of our antics throughout the year, but I'm keeping a copy to use later on. Here are a few in the making...

God has blessed me so much in the career he has given me. With all the bumps in the road(called paperwork and bureaucracy), it pays off more than I can put into words. These are the faces of our tomorrows.

Where Have I Been????

That does seem to be the question, and I'm not sure how time has flown by so quickly. My evenings have been full with painting at the church. Our cowboy church has outgrown the original building, and we're turning the barn of the old feedstore into our new sanctuary. We've been working for several months, and it's really coming together. Four of us gals are doing the painting, and we can almost see the light at the end of the tunnel! We've done a faux leather on the walls that I really like, but it's been a chore trying to rag 14 foot high walls. Needless to say, I've found muscles in my body that didn't even know they still had a job! The photos really don't do it justice, but here's how it's coming together -

No, just a little girl in red.

And, let me tell you, the wolf probably would have given me less trouble!

The Humble Arts will be offering storybook characters over the next few months, and this little girl just happened to step out of a book here at Sherry's Cabin. We've wrestled around for a couple of weeks now, but I think I have her under control for the moment. Talk about attitude!

I have another young girl who keeps flitting in and out of my storybooks. I hope to catch her off guard one day soon and put the finishing touches on her. She's been a real rascal, too! Maybe I can snap a photo of her if I hide behind the couch.

Well, one of the gals has a rough sort of a beginning of a head. She needs work. Does anyone know a good plastic surgeon? She might need to give him a call! She's got to dry, so I can see what needs to be fixed, but I'm excited just to get a head in the works.

Poor lighting in here, but you can't miss those chipmunk cheeks. I believe those babies need some sanding!

This day's just finer than frog's hair split four ways! I can't wait until the April offerings for the Humble Arts! The whole place will be filled with storybook characters. You won't want to miss it, either! I've decided to try my hand at another Izannah Walker inspired doll -well, several. I'm working on a series of Walker style dollies that have jumped straight from the pages of a book.

These two are just hanging out... don't worry... they're unarmed. Ok, bad joke... Hopefully, both will soon be gettin' a noggin if I can hold my tongue just right and stand on one foot and close one eye and... well, you get the idea.

Gremlins

Do any of you have gremlins??? Do you leave the house in order, only to return to things out of place? We have had gremlin problems for years, and I have been unable to catch them in the act....

the "bed-bug gremlin" must have been too tired. I was able to catch her as she snoozed!

I've had the camera out again! God has sent us rain. Thank you, Lord! We have been in such a drought for so long. He showered down on us, and the weeds are in bloom. Hey, we're happy with anything blooming here in West Texas! I even get excited about the cactus blooms.

Lord, thank you for sprinkling beauty around our home and allowing me to capture it on film to share with others.

Proof of God's Existance

If you have ever had any doubt of God's existance, let me take you for a stroll. Spring is in the air around here, and the Lord has sent my winged friends to flutter and buzz happiness into my heart. I've been working around the house today and just had to snap a few photos to share with you.

West Texas spring time is different from places that receive an abundance of rain, but it makes an awesome statement, just the same! I just took the time to notice our yuccas were in bloom today. I'm sure glad I slowed down to look.

The algerita bushes are in full bloom, and you can smell the sweetness for miles. Of course, that is, until they stop up your sinuses where you can't breathe! I sure hope we get some rain soon, so they put on a good crop of berries. You just can't beat pickin' berries to eat when you walk by(if you don't mind wiping the blood on your pants where the durned thing poked ya!).

The peach trees have opened their sleepy eyes and popped out blooms. We've had weather as high as the 90s for the last couple of weeks. I know we'll have an Easter cold spell, and we'll probably be fruitless this year. That's West Texas for ya.

The butterfiles are all a flutter, and dancing around the blooms.
And my favorite winged critter...

Yes, I'm a bug nut, and bees are one of my favorites. Yeah, I was the kid who always had a bug in hand...I've almost grown out of it... well, for the most part...ok, at least I don't carry cicadas on the inside of my cap anymore...

So, there you go...just a glimpse of God's handywork. No doubt about it! Hey, Big Bang theorists out there, put that in your pipe and smoke it!

A Wild Nine Days!

Wow, has it been busy at the Hall House! We've had the Stockshow going on for the last two weeks, and we're pooped! We started last weekend out with a float building shindig for the church Friday night. We had the longhorns, several riders on horses, our float, and a group of llamas for the church entry in the Saturday morning rodeo parade...and let me tell you... it was COLD! We had lots of fun anyway! We loaded up the chuckwagon for a Sunday mornin' breakfast at the church, unloaded Sunday afternoon, and did some riding. We raced through the week trying to get ready for this weekend and the first San Angelo Stock Show Longhorn Show!! Our chapter we started this summer(with a whopping 9 founding members) of the TLBAA finally got San Angelo to add a Longhorn Show. We had the rodeo Friday night and were unloading longhorns at the crack of dawn Saturday morning. I have to say, we had a blast! The kids did a great job, and the longhorns did well, too! One of the boys from our church, Big Hootie, showed Bo in the Open and Red in the Youth. Our neighbors, Katie and Little Hootie, showed for us, too. Gayland and I are working toward getting kids who, otherwise, would not be able to show, into the showring. By the way, did you catch that? Big and Little Hootie... where else could you find two unrelated kids that didn't know each other and both go by the name Hootie?

Gayland and I got to post colors both days, and one of the girls showing sang the National Antham and Amazing Grace. Her voice was incredible - one of those that gives you goosebumps.

Little Hootie showed Booger Red and won his class!

Katie won her class with Rooster and won Champion Senior Steer!

Big Hootie won his class, beat out Little Hootie for Junior Champion Steer, and took the whole shabang with Grand Champion Steer. He won a beautiful buckle that I'm sure he's sleeping with!Little Hootie ended up beating out Katie for Reserve Champion with Red!

In the Youth Show on Sunday, Big Hootie took 1st with Red and Katie took 2nd.... then they got their tails whupped by a gorgeous steer that dwarfed ours!!

Then, of course, there's that handsome guy, the Bossman, that ran the staging area - the man I'm so blessed to share my life with -

And, we can't forget the Pit Crew - our daughter and granddaughter did lots of grunt work to make things happen!

They're standing here with my Mama's Boy. Mac was grouchy most all of the weekend.

We had packed stands Saturday and lots of visitors that loved on the longhorns. It was a great time!
I have to say a special note about the judge for the Youth Show- Judge John Baker. We have never seen a judge take the time he did to help all of our kids. He was amazing. He put his heart and soul into helping them become better showmen. We all wish to say thanks again to him for making a difference in the lives of young people.

In the work I do, I sometimes get very discouraged about today's youth, but these renew my faith in our future!

The Latest Around Here

Nothing like a bath in the waterhose in 30 something degree weather! That's what Dixie Dog and I were doing at bedtime last night. It was the latest in our skunk drama around here. It's been a bad year for skunks. We've killed three in the last month...one being in the house... and Dixie stepped out onto the porch last night to go potty - instead she got skunked. He must have been right by the bedroom doors that lead out onto the porch because she goes the other way if there is the slightest smell of skunk! She proceded to rush back in to tell me what happened by pushing open the door before I got it latched. The smell filled our bedroom, and I knew she had to be stopped before she ran around rubbing her nose on everything... yes, we've done that before, too. I grabbed her and ran out the door- giving BOTH of us a nice aroma. We had to have a Pinesol bath in the waterhose before either of us could come back inside. Woosh! What a night. She and I smell ok today, but the bedroom still has a slight odor.

Time to Knock Off the Dust

My creative side had been dry as a bone. I've been busy a lot lately. Not productive- just busy. I'm shaking it off! It's time for some house-cleaning and some reprioritizing. I'm working on my HARTS project today. It's the first time I've been able to dedicate some time to creating in WAY too long. Oh, there's still plenty to do, but it will be there tomorrow. I've had the Martha syndrome lately, so I'm going to be taking some Mary days for myself. We had a blast at the Fort Worth Stock Show this past weekend. I spent my birthday traveling with the longhorns, and we got to relax!! It was so nice. For those of you who haven't seen or heard about the parade in Ft. Worth, it's the largest non-motorized parade in the U.S.

We were number 165 in the line-up, and we were no where near the end. Here's the view from the bridge they line us up on. We stand and wait for about an hour and a half here with over 1500 other animals. These ladies in front of us probably wished we were riding horses instead of pointing horns at their backsides!

I'm pretty sure Gayland fell asleep over there... Hey, wake up!!

This is going to be a wonderful year!

The Last of my Time Off

Happy New Year to Everyone! I hope you are enjoying a fruitful new beginning. I have the recipe for success if you're unsure how to make this year a great one. Live every day for the Lord. Receive His grace and rejoice!

We've been chuggin' along on the addition. I think I've polyurethaned all my brain cells! Gayland got the door to my pantry done! It's solid cedar and slides into the wall. I've gotten a coat of urethane on it, and I love it!!! Be sure and don't notice my unfinished tile work...

The den also has doors! I've just put the first coat of polyurethane on the doors to the den... well, where the den will be some day! I've got a lot of sanding and sealing left to do, but I thought I'd give you a peek!

We've had other things to keep us occupied this week, too. Our granddaughter stayed for several days, and she talked me into sewing a Barbie outfit with her. I pride myself in this being a family blog, so I won't say much about Barbs, but all my heart-felt, childhood feelings of Barbie were once again confirmed... she deserved having her feet cut off and being buried by my dumptruck!!!! (By the way, that was the only Barbie my folks bought me...hmmm) Do you know how stinkin' small she is?????? Look at this pattern-

After four bodices on that dress, I was almost ready for the nut house!! We got Barbie a red dress, though... I hope it pinches her...

The house is quiet... it seems strange. No hustle, no hurry... just a Blessed day to celebrate the birth of our Savior. We had quite a Christmas Eve. Our family that lives 5 hrs. away made a mad dash to our house for Christmas Eve. We opened presents and had a great time with all three grandkids here! Then we packed everybody like sardines on air mattresses for the night, and then they packed up after breakfast this morning and made another 2 hour drive to see the other half of the family. That's the way we've all seemed to be living lately- at a dead run. I was almost ready to snap last week, but sometime early this week, I stopped everything and earnestly asked God for some peace in my heart and mind. It washed over me like a wave, and the last four days have been such a blessing- even with last minute gift making, and two whole days spent in town (that's usually enough to send me over the edge anytime... much less at Christmas) I must say thank you, Lord. His Grace is amazing.

Oh, you've just got to see my favorite present I got last night from Dixie, our dog. Gayland did have to drive to every antique/junk store in town to do her shopping for her! I'm so lucky!!

Come on in to my new pantry, and I'll show you. I just love this room!!!! I catch myself standing in there gawkin' all the time!

Look at all of these old jars to store my drygoods in!!! Aren't they fantastic!!!!!

Have you noticed my shelves are a little bare? I took all of the canned goods out of the cabinet, and this is all the space they took...

I thought I had a lot of canned goods, but not so much!

I've also got to show you my treasures I found at the antique/junk stores while on the hunt for stocking stuffers for Gayland and his chuckwagon. Hmm... seems we both do our shopping there. I could not pass these to finds up when I came across them. The quilt, which is very tattered and frayed was $16 and the bear was $6.50!!! LOOK!!!

My granddaughter and I managed to make a some Cowgirl Bling for my step-daughter and daughter-in-law. I forgot to take pictures of most of it, but here's some of what we came up with.

We made several of these cross pendents and the big, chunky necklaces to go with them. This one was left over, so I managed to get a photo.

Here's one of the necklaces we made. We also made a cross for it similar to the one above, but with colors to match these stones. I took a photo with another of our trial pendents we made with an old cowgirl photo. It didn't turn out just like I wanted, but we'll keep trying. My sidekick granddaughter will be back to stay again on Monday, so there's no telling what we'll be making!

Well, enough flappin' my jaws. I've got trim to sand and seal!

Happy Birthday to my Lord and Savior! I hope that in all the hustle and bustle of this time of year, you are finding peace in Him and remembering why we celebrate this special birthday.

Last I reported, I was tiling the kitchen floor for Thanksgiving with the kids. I did get that done, and we've tackled several more projects along the way. We had our neighborhood hayride and Christmas party last night, and I was frantically trying to get everything done....didn't happen! That's ok, though. I think I was the only one who noticed. I've taken several pictures along the way with intentions of posting them.... again...didn't happen, so here's what we've gotten done.

Gayland just sanded down and finished our new island Friday evening. I LOVE it!!

Here's the tile I finished laying the week of Thanksgiving. That wall there still needs sealing and trim put on.

I've been working on the pantry since then. Here are the walls. I'm not sure you can tell much from the photo, but I tried to get somewhat of a leather look. I'm not sure what it looks like, but I like it, anyway!

Gayland got the ceiling and floor put in, and I've been working tonight to get the floor stained.

Now for the shelves!! I hope everyone is having a blessed Christmas Season!

I couldn't pass up sharing these photos of our granddaughter, Madison. She's been practicing for the upcoming longhorn show in February. She has to compete against the adults because they don't have a trophy steer division for the kiddos. I just love to watch the two of them... sweat pea and the gentle giant.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! We had a houseful! We ate too much turkey and ham, and had a whole lot of fun! We had all of our grandkids which fills my heart with joy (and wears me out plumb to the bone!). We had our annual family tree decoratin' and light hangin' shindig, and everyone had lots of fun. I even managed to get all the tile done on the kitchen floor before Turkey Day!

Hello out there! I hope everyone is getting ready for a fantastic Thanksgiving, and it is my hope that we all give thanks where it is due - to God. Well, the cabinets are back up, and I started tile work last night. You'll have to excuse the dust! We're living in a cloud of it at the moment!

The cabinets seem so far away now!!! I love it!! Well, except that frig, but it will have to stay for awhile.

Tear down that wall!...and that's just what he did! Gayland told me Friday that he was ready to knock down the kitchen wall and move it over, so he needed me to clean out all the cabinets. Whose stuff was in there??? I KNOW it couldn't all be mine...what I thought was going to be an hour project, turned into about four hours. Here was my kitchen about 4:00 yesterday afternoon:

Yep, that's my trashcan closet laying there in the floor...but by 10:00 last night... Wooohooooo! Can you see where the old tile stopped? That's how much new space I have. I love it!!! Now I have a lot of tiling to do, but that's ok! Oh, can you see the doorway next to the stove? That's the entry to my new pantry!!! I may not be in Heaven, but it's just durn near close!

I have NOT been a good blogger lately. It seems like I haven't slowed down in months. Come to think of it, I haven't. Maybe that's why it seems that way! We have had so many blessings in our life that I can't even begin to name them all. God loads us up with them every day! This past weekend, we rode in the San Angelo Veteran's Day Parade for our Cowboy Church. We had walkers with a banner, longhorns, horses, llamas, and a float! Talk about a group, now... The weather was beautiful, and we had a few folks come to church Sunday morning just because they saw us in the parade! That's what it's all about. A friend of mine got this picture of me having too much fun!

Christian Cowboy Gatherin' and the Duke

Our cowboy church and two others had a cowboy gatherin' this weekend, and guess who showed up to give a message???? John Wayne. That's right, folks! Well, close. He's a John Wayne impersonator with a wonderful message, and he's workin' for the Lord! Wow! I guess you know what big JW fans we are around this house... let's see JW on the wall... JW on the coffee table... and my own personal JW lunchbox. Oh, and we must not forget our steers - Rooster Cogburn and McLintock!

We really enjoyed meeting Dr. Gene Howard, and I think he enjoyed posing on our little boy, Rooster. He looked more like the Duke from a distance than up close, but his voice and his testimony more than made up for that!

We had our chuckwagon crew, our band, and the longhorns, and we had a blast! Best of all, some souls were saved!

I could not believe it! I picked up the mail Friday and was thrilled to have the Christmas addition of Doll Crafter and Costuming waiting in my box. I'm a magazine junky AND a Christmas junky, so I had really hit the jackpot for the weekend! I never can wait to get home, so as I was backing out of the post office (Don't try this at home!), I flipped through the magazine just to see what goodies awaited me. There it was... my HARTS Santa candy container... right there in the Gallery! I had submitted a picture, but I figured it would be filed with hundreds of others - File 13. I'm still shocked!

Ok, My Friends in BlogLand,

I reallllllyyy want to finish my life-size Santa, and he's still barefoot. I am looking for a pair of old, worn stovepipe boots, such as the old cavalry boots, in a size 10, 11, or 12. I'm poor, so I need them to fit my shoestring budget! If you happen onto a pair somewhere, please send me an email with the info. I would hate for Santa to have to go barefoot this Christmas. His wittle toesies would fweezzzee! Here's kind of what I have in mind, but laceups will work, too. I'd actually like them more worn, but I can take care of that after I get them!

The Pumpkin Patch

From one pumpkin to another!!!!!!! A woman was asked by a coworker, "What is it like to be a Christian?" The coworker replied, "It is like being a pumpkin." God picks you from the patch, brings you in, and washes all the dirt off of you. Then He cuts off the top and scoops out all the yucky stuff. He removes the seeds of doubt, hate, and greed. Then He carves you a new smiling face and puts His light inside of you to shine for all the world to see."

Yes, I am Still Alive!

Yes, folks, I am still alive, and thanks to the Lord for that! I have been so busy that I could drop to the floor and sleep in WalMart if everyone would just walk around me. School has me out of sorts this year, and I'm working hard to get things going the way I'd like them to go. Nobody else seems to want to play by the rules I make, though... hmmm...

What's been going on around here? I have managed to get the fall decorations out in the house, but I haven't managed to make it to the porch, yet. I've been working on a couple of Santas - one of which will be offered in the October edition of the Humble Arts, so stop by to see the goodies the HARTS artists have created.

Well, there's Ol' Saint Nick now. He's an original from my little Santa shop. He's sitting amongst the pumpkins on the fireplace at the moment, so he really needs a new home!

Gayland's still working hard on the addition. We have part of the metal on the roof now!!

Wooohooo!!! New craft room, here I come!!!!!!!

We've got Sunday evening service in the arena tonight, so I've got to wrap it up. One of our members had everything set up this morning (we all new beforehand), and asked his wife(who was on stage in the band) to "re" marry him tonight in the arena on their anniversary. So, we've got a weddin' to go to tonight!

New Family Member!

We'd like to introduce our newest family member, Cocoa!
She's a four year old sweetheart that's come to live with us. She has been the pride and joy of my second cousin that grew up with my dad. His health has been declining, and he has decided Cocoa should come live with us. With both tears of sadness and joy, we welcomed her into the family as we pray for his health to improve.

Cowboy Capital of the World!

We had a fantastic time this Labor Day Weekend at the annual Celebrate Bandera Celebration! It carries the title of being the Cowboy Capital of the World. There are hitchin' posts in front of many of the buildings, and horses (and longhorns) are parked all over the place. We had a camera malfunction during the Saturday parade, so I didn't get all the photos I was hoping for. I was able to get some great shots, though, of many of us that camped in the park. Those are posted below in the previous post.

So sorry for the absence! I've been trying to get ready for the new school year, and I haven't slowed down these last several weeks. I can't even think creatively when I'm stressed as I have been. That's ok, though, because I turned it over to God this morning. Yes, you would think that was the first thing I did... but, oh no, I've hung on to it for awhile now trying to do things my own way. When will I learn?????

Well, it's quiet around here. The grandkids left Sunday afternoon. I loved the week with them, but, boy, was I tired!

It's been a busy week for me, which has cut into my posting. I get so spoiled over the summer while school is out. I pretend I'm independently wealthy (hehe), and I don't have to work - just enjoy creating, grandkids, longhorns, and being outside in the summer sun.

Then.... SMACK... reality hits, and it's time to go back to work! I do love teaching, but it's hard to get back in the swing every fall. I've worked in my room this week, and I really haven't done anything that will be seen by the kids. I'm a sicko organizer and can't function unless everything is in order, so I've been emptying drawers, cleaning out cabinets, etc. Now I just need some magic dust to sprinkle around to jazz up the room. For some reason, I'm running low on magic dust this year. I haven't come up with anything special for the room. It needs a new look, but I can't seem to find one, yet. But, the Lord willin', and the creek don't rise, I'll get 'er done.

We've got a house full of artwork going on! We added another granddaughter to the mix yesterday, so they're all here now! We did get Disco Santa's makeup done this morning- just after the Hide-and-Seek game from here to the barn.

But poor Santa's been put to rest for the day, I fear. They broke out the paints just after lunch, and we've got some serious discussion going on in there. I crept away to post a few pictures...heehee...shhhh.

Grandkids and Fun- Passin' It On!!!

I haven't had a chance to post in several days. They've just been too jam-packed with fun and grandkids! Our two grandkids that live about five hours away are spending the week with us. They've been playing in the dirt, catching bugs, riding and feeding longhorns, and crafting; and Papaw and Mamaw are trying to keep up! Our granddaughter has asked for me to sculpt her a Disco Santa... yes, Disco... and this ol' Mamaw isn't quite sure just what he's supposed to look like! Never fear, though, because she and I are working together on him. As we type this very moment, Santa's head is in the oven! I don't count the hours that I put into a Santa, but I'm guessing it's well over 100, which makes it tedious work for an 8 yr. old(excuse me, 9 in just nine days...I stand corrected). However, she's working hard on him!!!

Tyler's gotten into the action, too. Papaw built him a sailboat that he has painted. We've just got to seal it and sail it!!

The Pieces Have Finally Come Together!

HAPPY DANCIN"...HAPPY DANCIN'!!!!!

I have finally gotten my scattered pieces together! There are still details that need to be done - snow, belt, and accessories- but Santa has come together! In the style of the old German Santas, he is a candy container! Yes, there is a wooden container under there. His body is carved bass wood, his arms are posable, and his head, hands, and boots are sculpted paper clay. He just got a little more coffee and cinnamon on his trimmings, and his just about ready to pack his bag!

There's a Battle Waging!

Yes, there is a battle waging, and it's all in my head! I absolutely love my polymer clay and try to create Santas as life-like as possible. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't! That's ok, though. I ALSO love primitives- the feel, the look, the warm-cozies I get from making and holding them. Sometimes the two go hand-in-hand. Even life-like Santas need antique looking dolls, worn coats, scuffed boots that have walked many miles to visit every child, and warm weathered hands. But, herein also lies the battle! I've been working on my HARTS project, which I've chosen to go with the warm-cozies, but I keep trying to work my paper clay like polymer!! That's actually ok because it SUPPOSED to be more primitive, but I keep having to remind myself!!!!! Could somebody break up the fight????

Heehee... I'm really having fun! He should be finished today.
