A New Card Design for the New Year!

What will your New Year bring?  What path will you travel in 2014?  Mine's pretty simple.  As I thought, last night, about the path I'll walk in the coming year, I sketched and painted a snapshot for you.  I don't often dabble in watercolors, but they just seemed to want out of the box last night!

Walk in Faith - Original Watercolor by Sherry Hall

Along with the watercolors, I had some papers that were screaming to become cards...it seems the art supplies had the run of the place!
So, here's what I designed -

Walk in Faith Note Cards 4x5.5" - Brown

Walk in Faith Note Cards 4x5.5" - Cream

I was excited to see the finished cards.  The inside reads:
Now faith is  the substance of things
hoped for, the evidence of things not
Sets will be available in my Etsy store, HERE!

So, what will your walk look like in 2014?
 Happy New Year!!

As the Christmas Season Winds Down...

I am enjoying one more afternoon tea with the girls in the craft room before the trees start coming down.  They are a quiet bunch, so I have to do most of the talking.  As I sat my cup down to enjoy the peace and quiet, it reminded me again how precious the Gift we received truly is.  We need to celebrate the Season year-round.  That's my plan.  As you begin a New Year, why don't you carry the Reason for the Christmas season along with you?

Trash to Treasure - Find of the Day!

As our year comes to an end, I'm enjoying my last days of 2013 in the craft room.  I wanted to share my find of the day...well, actually, it was a find several months ago, but I'm just now dragging it out to work on it.  I was given an old box spring mattress by a friend of mine.  Although Gayland thought I was crazy for dragging it home, he let me stash it in Area 52 - our little secret dump...erh...cove of treasures.

Merry Christmas

The family has gone and the house is quiet, and once again I realize just how blessed we are.
Lord, thank you for Your gift to us.

I've taken some quiet moments this evening to give my blog a new look to celebrate new beginnings, and to be thankful.
Merry Christmas and God bless!

Thankful for Time to Enjoy the Day

November is here, and my blog is waking from its slumber!  The start if school has slowed to a bearable pace, and I am again able to spend some time with the animals, clean my house, and even spend a little time in the craftroom!

I am thankful for each day God gives me, and today is no different, but it has been nice to enjoy a slow-paced day.

So, what's on the work table, you ask?  Ok, so maybe you didn't, but I'll tell you anyway!  I've got a order of three custom Santa ornaments that I'm excited to be working on, and the first one has started to take shape!

What are you thankful for today?

Ah, Fall is Here....Problem...What Problem?

It's the first day of fall, and I'm pulling out the decorations.  This ceremonious day marks the start of a three month whirlwind of decorating!  That makes my heart sing!

I thought I'd give you a peek at what's on the craft table-

So......does anyone see a problem here????  There seems to be a few things that need finishing...it appears I have the Nightmare Before Christmas taking shape on my table!
Maybe Santa could send me a few elves...

May God's Grace and Mercy shine throughout your week!

My Little Buddy

Stranger things have happened....well, maybe not....  I have a new buddy.  We've been hanging out together in my laundry room.  I do most of the talking.  He's a quiet sort.  I'm not really sure how we even struck up a friendship, but he meets and greets me any time I come in. Tonight he was waiting on top of the washer for our nightly chat....

We chitchat a little each day.  We shake hands, and I leave him to guard the laundry.

I hope our paths cross another day, little buddy.  God sure put some thought into you, and I'm glad we've gotten to share some time together.

Fall is in the Air...or At Least on My Mind

With the coming of Labor Day and the beginning of school, comes my desire to break out the fall decorations.  I know it's too early, but I'm ready!

I found new bowls at WallyWorld this week, and the Pumpkin Spice wax cubes are on the shelves- and now in my warmers!  Count down to The fall equinox begins!

Happy Labor Day!

Good Morning Folks!
Happy Labor Day to everyone!  I thought I would share a little peek into the Cabin this morning, since I have the day off.  I've already been out chasing bugs.  This little fella was peering in at me as I sat on the couch drinking coffee and reading my Bible.

One of these days I'm going to figure out how to take really good macro photos....don't hold your breath, though...it might be awhile.
School has started, and we made it through the first week -wooo!  God has blessed my classroom, so I know it will be a fantastic year.  As I mentioned in my last post, I have also started riding Cimarron and Jake....aaaand, I ate a little dirt twice this past week.  That ground certainly has gotten harder since last I remember.
So, what is going on with my art?  I am working on my first BJD-ball-jointed doll, and I am fairly certain I have figured out why I don't make them.  So far, I've only sculpted the head, and I am really not very happy with it.  I like wrinkles!  I love the folds and textures of my Santa faces and the old hags I've made.  I don't do smooth very well.
I am going to try to get the torso sculpted today, so keep your fingers crossed!  I am always looking to improve my art and to try new techniques.  At least I can check this one off the bucket list!
Enjoy the day and soak up God's sunshine!  He was up early sprinkling blessings out like candy sprinkles this morning, so be sure to take time to look around for them today!

New Beginnings

This past week has had some awesome beginnings- new journeys.  It's always exciting to see what God has planned for me...some times I wish He'd give me the memo ahead of time, but it's always exciting!  After a year and a half of groundwork I rode Cimarron for the first time.
He's awesome!  His biggest obstacle is his rider....that's just the way it is, Cimmaron.....you have to play the cards you're dealt.

....and a couple of days later, I rode Big Jake for the first time.  (He's still growing into his name!)  Thoughts of a longhorn when you crawl on and say, "Let's go!"......"Woman, are you crazy?  I'm a cow...well, technically a steer, but that doesn't make you less crazy!"

It is the beginning of a new school year, as well.  I am so blessed to have been called to teach.  Now that doesn't mean that, on occasion, I'm not asking, God are you crazy?  ....and He is thinking, "Woman, are you crazy?"

My art has taken on some new beginnings, too, but more about that another day.

Thank The Lord for this day!

From the Work Table and Sunday Evening Thoughts

As the weekend comes to a close, we've seen God's handiwork firsthand once again.  Yesterday we buried a family member, and, as we did, I watched in admiration as our church helped to orchestrate a beautiful service and lunch for everyone.  Thank you to all who pitched in to help.

We closed the evening with a beautiful wedding where we got to see a dear friend marry the love of her life.  That makes me smile that there are still those in the younger generation that understand God's plan.

So, what's happening on the work table, you ask?  I did get a chance this afternoon to create the armature to sculpt my first BJD - ball-jointed doll.  Are you wondering why I've decided to give this a try?  Well, me, too...hehehe....  It is truly a challenge and is out of my normal creative swing, so I thought I'd give it a try.  I decided to go with the female I sculpted first after finding the perfect inspiration in a vintage circus photo.

Here's what was on the worktable today-

A little flame throwing...
and the armature is born....

Stay tuned!

May God bless the trails you ride.

News from the Cabin

Good Morning!
I hope this finds you dripping in God's blessings this morning!

So, I've been thinking about how to revive my blog.  It seems Facebook has been a blog killer for me.  It's entirely too easy to post a quick message there and neglect the blog that I love.  I appreciate those followers who have stayed around to check in on me once in awhile!  Now it's time, though, to shake this thing up a little.  My goal is to build a following that will drive me to post regularly here.  I don't want to be my only reader!

My blog is a place where I share God's word, give you a peek at my art table, share my art, and laugh at our animals.  My question to you is:
Why do you visit my blog?
What interests you here?
What would make you visit again?

I would appreciate your thoughts and comments!  I love this little blog, and I want to give it life again.

...and now....what is on my art table?

I am attempting my first ball-jointed doll.  Well, actually two.  I'm working on a woman and an elf.  This is new territory for me, so stay tuned to see if I come out with BJDs or a pile of parts to be randomly used at Halloween!

Remember to watch for God's blessings today!

Day 30- God's artwork

Well, I've learned something from my 30 day challenge.  I am not an everyday blogger!  It's taken me 40 days to do a 30 day challenge!  I've also learned there is much more of God's amazing beauty around me than I was able to photograph.

I thought last night's sunset was a fitting end to my challenge.  It is not, however, an end to my appreciation for the art that God surrounds us with every day.  If you don't have the time to stop and appreciate His artwork, you need to change your schedule!
Have a Blessed Sunday!

Only 200 days until Christmas!

That's right! It's only 200 days until Christmas, and I'm in Santa Claus gear!  I'm so glad to find the umph to sculpt again.  I have contemplated sculpting other things, but Christmas time at Sherry's Cabin has rolled around, and I am so glad!
I started to work on a prim Belsnickel candy container, and the cheer is in the air!

Check back to see this WIP.  Santa's head is done , but he wouldn't pose for a pic with a bare chin!

In the last few years, I've run across a specific type of doodling several times.  It's called Zentangles.  It is a very delicately woven tangle of doodles that is quite striking when done.  However, the whole idea behind the art form is intrinsically wrong, in my opinion.  Supposedly, you are supposed to meditate on yourself - get in the zone of selfness...bah...every time I go to thinking about myself, I get into a mess!

Psalm 1:2 says,

"But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law does he meditate day and night."
Psalm 119:9-16 says,

"How can a young man cleanse his way?
By taking heed according to Your word.
10 With my whole heart I have sought You;
Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments!
11 Your word I have hidden in my heart,
That I might not sin against You.
12 Blessed are You, O Lord!
Teach me Your statutes.
13 With my lips I have declared
All the judgments of Your mouth.
14 I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies,
As much as in all riches.
15 I will meditate on Your precepts,
And contemplate Your ways.
16 I will delight myself in Your statutes;
I will not forget Your word."
So, here's my version:

While doodling this, I focused my thoughts on those that need prayer, on God's Word, on His promises.  It is, in fact, a very focused form of art, and it is a shame that Zentangle creators are teaching folks to focus on the wrong thing.  If you're a doodler, try a PrayerTangle.  It is very calming, and your focus will be where it needs to be!

God's Beauty Day 29

Lord, thank You for the rain!

Pretty N Pink

Well, in researching comic info, I found that many comic artists draw and color in computer/iPad programs.  Since I didn't have enough to do...ha....I thought I'd give it a try.  It took me six times as long to draw and color this pink bombshell than it would have with pencil and acrylic paints.  :(. She didn't turn out nearly as good, either!  The colors I see on the program don't transfer to the jpeg monitor picture I see...again :(....the shading doesn't show correctly at all.  That being said, here is Pretty N Pink - drawn and painted entirely with my finger on the iPad.

Will this be my new medium in the future.  Absolutely NOT!  However, I can say I've tried it!  For those of you that are thinking drawing on you iPad is easypeasy - go ahead and give it a try!

God's Artwork Day 26

My photo this evening is a color-not the object.  Take a moment to stare into her eyes.  I only wish I could mix those colors with my paint brush.

Day 24 - God's Artwork

I have hurried here and there with the end of school, and I thought I had snapped a photo of all the colorful wildflowers around here.  I even commented to Gayland as such.  Not true, though!  While we were walking Red before church tonight, I found a new one God planted just for this hunt!  Pardon my fingers in the photo...winds were blowing so hard, I could not get the poor thing to be still long enough for a picture.  I had to grab ahold and snap!  I guess I should have edited them out, but I'm on the move!
Have a blessed night!

More Doodles from the Desktop!

What if Ima Jean were to morph?  You know, like all of the cartoons nowadays with animals that have morphed into human-like form?  Well, I have a feeling I know what she'd be doing...

Somebody save me from the Doodles.  They've got ahold of me!!!!

Day 23 - Amazing Camo!

I love today's photo!  My little friend has been hanging out in my laundry room, and I've carried him outside twice now.  He seems to like hanging around with me!

Is it not amazing the thought that went into making the praying mantis?
I am in awe.

Day 22 God's Artwork

Today's photo:

I'm sure you're wondering why I've chosen a man-made object for my "God's Artwork" collection.  Well, I was thinking about how the rain, the storms, the winds had given this such a beautiful patina.  God's handywork!

Doodling Monsters Always Makes Me Smile

If you check my teacher workshop notes, my journals, my scratch paper, they usually all have something in common...monster doodles!  I'm not sure why I like doodling monsters, but I do.  They make me smile!  Of course, my monsters are not the kind you'd find in dark alleys or horror movies.  No, those are not MY monsters! Mine have a more sophisticated air about them.  They have stories to tell...take Humphrey, for instance...he's been coming to life on my desk this afternoon...in between cleaning, of course!

So tell me, what do you think Humphrey's story is??

Day 21...Whoops, What Happened to 20???

It's late on day 21, and I'm popping in to share a little pop of color - still playing by the iphone rules!

So sorry about Day 20.  It came and went while I tried to get things finished for the end of school. :(

Day 19 - God's Artwork and Humor!

Although it's only a week away from the end of the school year, I've spent the last four hours filling out a grant proposal for next year.  In the midst of trying to crunch numbers and answer crazy questions, I walked down to the barn and happened to capture my picture of the day...and, to me, it's beautiful!  Beautifully funny, that is!  I know God has a sense of humor.  As I walked by these lips, they reminded me how beautiful God's sense of humor is!

He gives us joy.  He gives us laughter.
Take advantage of it!

Day 18 - God's Artwork

After a long day, I am reminded...
He's got the whole world in His hands.

A Little Art Therapy for Me

With school coming to a close and the many hats I where, I haven't settled in to sculpt anything lately.  I can't seem to get in the mood.  I have, however, been doodling away!  I've always drawn and painted with acrylics, but I've been finding myself interested in mixed media artists and doodle artists lately - yes, I've found doodle artists!  I read an article about artist markers, watched some video clips, and have been really wanting to try them.  Well, it just happens I've been saving some birthday money, and Michael's ran 40% of all artist markers today!  Those little babies are expensive!!!!
Off I went to carefully select a few colors and to get a very small set.

Maybe I should have bought clay... It seems I can color with very expensive markers just like I can color with the Crayola markers I use in my classroom....:(
Maybe with a little practice???? And many more shades of markers????

First I doodled...

No, I don't know where she came from any more than the Pond Diva I drew yesterday.  I have this secret plan to one day retire and draw pictures for greeting cards over which companies will be fighting..hehehe...I can dream, can I?  Ok, so maybe that's not in the foreseeable future.

Then while I was scanning her to share, I plopped in some background color and hit the tubes...

Then why not tone down the background and add a little frame...

So, does this count as being productive on this school holiday???  I haven't had any calls from Hallmark just yet....

Day 16 of God's Artwork Challenge - Are We in Lilliput?

It's all about the perspective...
The best perspective happens when you're viewing the world through God's Word.
How's your view?

Day 14 - God's Artwork Challenge

Of course, most things in West Texas stick, sting, or bite,
and the flowers are no different!
They sure do like pretty in the evening sun, though.

Day 13 - One of God's Most Amazing Designs

Well, I knew it would happen...I took my photo yesterday, worked outside until dark, and...forgot to post the picture of the day :(.  I realized it this morning on our way into town, so I spent most of the morning trying to upload from my phone to the blog while Gayland drove us from chore to chore...only to get back to our gate just about the time I got the photos loadable.  So, here's yesterday's photo and post:

As my baby boy and I worked, I stared once again in amazed joy at this awesome creation.  Every inch of design an engineering miracle and a beauty to behold!

Day 12 of the Challenge

A little rain makes all the difference!
We are truly enjoying the color green around here!  It's not a sight we see too often, but we certainly take the time to appreciate it when we do!
May all of your pastures be green this week!

Day 11 - God's Artwork Comes with Thanks

We have been so blessed to get some rain out here in the dust, and the storm clouds are rolling in again this evening!
Thank you, Lord!
My camera just doesn't do these clouds justice!
What are you thankful for today?

God's Artwork Day 9 - Amazing Details in the Design

I walked by the cactus at the barn and thought, "Hey, that nest in the cactus might make a neat photo."  It's in the midst of a bunch of cactus and just above my head.  The phone went airborne, and I started tapping my finger.  What a surprise to see the results!  Baby On Board!

I was severely chastised by an angry mama who came very quickly!

Challenge Day 8

It's a beautiful Sunday, and I was able to get my photo early this morning!  For those that attend Cowboy Church, you know dogs, horses, and folks are welcome.  For those that don't, we'd love to have you join us!  Red Dog was making his usual rounds before church with his dad and me following along, and we came across another splash of color that seemed to wave at me and plead for its picture to be taken.

I was asked what camera I am using.  It's part of my rules for the challenge that I can only use my iPhone, so iPhone it is!  It's certainly not too late for you to play along with me.  Get out this week and look for God's artwork.  Snap it and post it anywhere to share!  Have a blessed week, and get out there and bless someone else!
